Madam Butterfly Opera vs Animation
Both the opera and the animation of Madam Butterfly are beautiful pieces of art. The opera is very extravagant and since it's longer, the story has more time to develop and include details. The animation is more digestible in a shorter amount of time. I really liked the symbolism in the animation. The umbilical cord representing the woman's bond with her child when the child was being taken away from her was very powerful. At the very end, the woman takes herself apart little by little to symbolize the destruction losing her child caused and her taking her life. I think both are very interesting. For a class setting with a limited amount of time, I think the animation does a great job of getting the storyline across. As a classically trained vocalist myself though, I prefer the opera.
